What is a GLP-1 Medication?

When you eat, a hormone called GLP-1 is automatically released in our body. This hormone tells your brain that you are full. The medicine targets the brain and mimics that "full feeling", plus reduces appetite, slows stomach emptying and ultimately decreases your caloric intake. You feel satisfied with smaller amounts of food.

Tirzepatide is similar to Semaglutide, but it is a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist.   Tirzepatide is a synthetic peptide with glucose-lowering effects. It works to stimulate first- and second-phase insulin secretion, and reduces glucagon levels, both in a glucose-dependent manner.

Your body also has a “set point”. A set point is the weight that your body tries to return to, or where your weight normally “sets” on the scale.  Some studies show that after keeping that new set point for 6 months, you body adapts to it as the new point to continue with.
